Learn About Book Sense, IndieBound and The ABA
Since 1999, the American Booksellers Association publishes Book Sense picks to promote the best independently-published books to bookstores, publishers, authors and readers alike, creating awareness of books that may otherwise fall through the cracks. Today, its monthly Book Sense picks are known as the Indie Next List, as independent bookstores are always ahead of the game in finding the next big thing in books.
Recent selections on the Indie Next List include “Running the Rift” by Naomi Benaron, “The Demi-Monde: Winter” by Rod Rees, “All the Flowers in Shanghai” by Duncan Jepson, “All Fall Down” by Megan Hart and “Country of the Bad Wolfes” by James Carlos Blake.
In addition to the Indie Next List, the ABA compiles a quarterly selection of the best children’s books, an annual list of highlights and a list of the year’s top ten poems. These lists keep booksellers and readers up-to-date on the best new independent books available and help keep independent booksellers competitive.
