Indie Community

What is the IndieBound.org Community?

The mission of the IndieBound.org community is to help people across the United States share and find independently-owned businesses. By connecting indie-conscious people with local businesses, we're working to strengthen the health of Main Street ecosystems across the United States. Learn more about the community's philosophy here.

What can I do?

Well, first you should sign up! Then...

New for the holidays! The Book Wish List!

Make a list of the books you want and we’ll send it to your family and friends. Or make a list of shopping you need to do! Either way, you’ll be supporting independents and spreading the word. Do your part this holiday season and make an independent choice. Learn more about how to create a Wish List here.

Check the Map.

Search the Indie Store Finder map for businesses close to you. You can always click the "FIND AN INDIE STORE" button at right.

Click the "more info" link to visit a store's Profile Page.

Then:

* Become a fan of your favorite businesses by clicking on the "Become a Fan" link at the bottom of the store's profile.

* Add a review of a store you love.

* Add store pictures, hours and more by clicking "Update Store Info."

Add a Store.

Add your favorite Indie retailers to the IndieBound.org database—so everyone can shop indie everywhere they go!

Just click on Add a Store on the top bar at any time to get started!

Your new store should appear on the Indie Store Finder map immediately.

When you add a store (or invite a friend, or write a comment) you'll receive Points—the number that appears next to your name. Earn over 100 points, and you could win a gift basket full of goodies from indies in your neighborhood! Maybe you'll even make it onto the list of users with the most Points... You can learn more about Points here.

Check up on stores you've added with the "Stores I've Added" button on your profile page.

Make a Friend.

Or two, or three, or three hundred.

Looking for new friends? Our Member Search can find community members by name, location, interests, or anything else listed on their profile.

Just visit any community member's profile page and click the Add to my Friends List button:

Your new friend will receive an email notification that they've been added. They will appear on your Friends List immediately, but you won't be on theirs until they add you in return.

You can keep in touch with friends by leaving notes on their Profile Pages (right under "Add to my friends list"), or by sending them a Private Message. (Some users may choose to disable this option.)

Spread the Word.

Invite friends, neighbors, and other indie fans (and those who should be!) to join and contribute their favorite stores.

Use our banners, blinkies, and icons to spread indie awareness across the web.

Sign up to sell books through your own blog or website (and receive a nice commission, too!) through our IndieBound.org Affiliate Program.
